Wait, what?! High School??

Holy cow...hard to believe.  You would think we had adequately prepared for this, but no.  Can't believe our little man is a high school freshman.  He is already a week into it, and says it is going well.  He even says he likes it more than middle school, which he liked pretty well!

One more year at St John's for Carson.  This school has been so great for the whole family.  It will be sad to say goodbye, but we will celebrate how well it prepared the CNMs for their next steps.

Carson's group of pals are goofballs.  They are also the majority of his cross country and basketball teams.  Good guys.  Only a few will follow him to Free St High, so we'll have to find ways to keep them together.

Conner's friends are fishermen.  Here he is with Ian, who lives just three doors down from us.  They have a class together this year and are pictured at a Kansas City water park.

We went to Perry Lake last weekend as a kind of last hurrah of summer.  The Johanning family hosted a party there and you know the boys took the opportunity to get a line in the water!

We've mentioned before that Conner runs a pretty impressive set of displays in his bedroom.  Gamilee gave us a cool ship model years ago, and he found a prominent spot for it last week.  Yes, there is a shark over his left shoulder...

Told you it was an impressive display.  While the ship was built in the 1950s, he has set it up with a blue LED lighting element.  And his prestine aquarium glows in the background.

Carson is a bit of a pillow hound, and loves the pillow cases his Mummy offers to create for him.  She chooses the softest of fabrics.  Here he is trying out an especially large one that happens to match his pajama pants.  "It's so soft, Mummy!!"

It has been a good summer.  We are all ready for the structure and activity of the school year.  And maybe Daddy is excited for b-ball season to start...

We did stuff at home too...

All this talk of summer trips to escape the KS heat, and to keep the CNMs occupied...didn't want you to think there weren't any noteworthy activities on the homefront!

Yes, there was fishing.  Even when the temps were soaring and the humidity was thick.  You can't keep Conner away from the fishing holes.  And the picture up top shows the very fleating moments of Carson's baseball careeer.  (practiced two times and chose not to play in any games)

The cats haven't gotten much play in the blog recently, so here is a nice one of Smink.  Both girls are doing fine, and quite content to be indoor pets during the heat of summer.

Darby is such a cool kid, and has made a couple appearences on the blog.  Carson and he are buddies, and they share an affinity for Marvel superheros, evidenced by their focus on the above picture.

Conner has worked hard all summer with his new lawn care service.  Several of our neighbors have him mowing, weeding, and doing overall maintenence.  But when he's not working, he is content to chill at the house.  Kick back and read the paper...

Carson on the other hand, needs to remain active or he gets anxious.  He has served all summer as a junior counselor for a city-sponsored day camp.  7:30am till 2:30pm Monday thru Friday!  And he too is helping some locals with their lawn work.  Here he is enjoying a rooftop performance with Dad.

So, we are only weeks away from school starting again.  This coming year will be the first and last that the boys are in different schools (till they head off to college!)  (and since Conner was in kindergarten)  Sure wish these studs would stop growing up so fast!
